Physios to get prescription powers in England

Physiotherapy movement in Singapore is really moving too slow.....behind everyone in the world...

Signz.. lack of strong support movement for the professional... going nowhere.

Physiotherapists and podiatrists in England are to get the right to prescribe medicines by themselves.

Ministers agreed to the change in the law after carrying out a consultation, but it will be 2014 before it is fully rolled out.

When physios and podiatrists do start prescribing they will become the first in the world to be given such powers.

And it will mean patients do not have to go back to GPs to get drugs such as anti-inflammatories and painkillers.

I am totally agree with this statement and we should move further and ahead to be a leader in Asia! As a Physio in private practice, we oftenly seeing patients visited orthopaedic for their problem and the medicine prescribed by an orthopaedic usually within our knowledge or I will say no special surprise. Most of the prescriptions are no other than NSAIDs, muscle relaxant, calcium, glucosamine, Vit B complex.....! If a Physio could write a prescription, the patient does not need to go to medical centre, waste their money and time, and eventually the prescription is a standard one.

Here, I want to make a clear statement, a Physio can prescribe a limited controlled medicines does not mean that a Physio can sell the product! A written prescription from Physio is enable patient to purchase medicine from a pharmacy!

we definitely need to move ahead.. not necessary as a leader.. but at least be at par with the rest of the world.. physio in australia, uk and even malaysia are practicing trigger point needling.. and we are not even allow to practice this modality.

let alone to practice injections or prescriptions... we're indeed behind in practice.. talk about advanced practice for singapore allied health practitioners..
