Weak knees
Hi, I play badminton 1-2 times a week. Recent years, I feel weakness on my left knee and sometimes even pain. If I wear knee guard during my games, my knee feels stronger. But when I remove the knee guard after the game, I feel weaker. Please help!

Re: Weak knees
Looks like poor knee neuromuscular control. Will need to strength the muscles.
There is an interesting discussion about whether one should be fit to exercise or exercise to be fit.
In this case, are you strengthening sufficiently to be engaged in the sporting exercise, or do you want to do your sporting exercise, in hope for strengthening.
There are few categories for exercises:
1. Strengthening exercise
2. Flexibility exercise
3. Sporting exercise
4. Therapeutic exercise
Strengthening exercise - refers to doing activities specifically to strengthening up the muscles. Need to have resistant training. e.g gym weights and theraband
Flexibility exercise - refer to doing activities to lengthen your muscles and joint capsule. Need to feel the stretch when performing the action
Sporting exercise - refer to doing an enjoyable activity be it tennis, badminton, swimming. Generally helps for cardio fitness and mental wellbeing
therapeutic exercise - refer to a specific program to address specific needs, eg. physio exercise, pilates, yoga, etc..
See a doctor or physio for further assessment.
hope this helps.

Re: Weak knees
By the way, is knee guard good for the knees? Because I feel weak after removing the guard. So is it bad to use that?

Re: Weak knees
knee guard is good to support. It is afterall a passive support. It will be good for long term management to strengthen the knees. Having the good neuromuscular knee control helps reduce your "weak knees"

Exercises are always tiring.
Yet, there are so many sports and exercises happening around us. Why?
We just have to make it fun. If it can't be fun, then make it interesting.
If it can't be interesting, then make it easy.
If it can't be easy, then make it convenient.
If it can't be convenient, then make it a group activity to have support.
If it can't be a supported group activity, then make it part of life.
It's just one of many life's complaints. Accept it! =)
