Hi, please help to confirm whether is it actually healthy or harmful to be walking up or down stair-cases... There seems to be conflicting views on this...

It depends on the person who is performing the exercise - if they have any pre-existing conditions or if it's just a healthy individual.
For e.g. if a person with patello-femoral pain does the exercise then it might not be the best for them

So you mean for normal person (healthy individual), walking up or down stair-case (for eg, 20 storeys tall) is ok?

Theoretically yes, it should be fine. But as with all exercise, one should start off easy and gradually progress so 20 storeys for someone who is a healthy individual but doesn't do exercise on a regular basis is probably a bit much.
I'd probably start off with less and gradually build it up.

I can only think of 2 occassions when i had to do 20 storeys.

1. preparing for a mount ophir

2. going for a vertical marathon

Either way, the training has to be incremental and progressive.
Going straight for 20 storeys for someone who doesn't have much training will be in for quite abit of knee pain and butt pain.
